Methow Valley Nordic's 2026 Ski-a-Thon, our first all-team event of the season, is raising funds this year to help replace Sven, the beloved blue team van. After 160,000 miles of hauling kids and gear to the trails, Sven is approaching retirement. We're aiming to raise the funds to replace the van over the next 18 months.

Reliable transportation is a big part of making skiing accessible to every MVN kid. From the school bus we provide for kids in grades K-5 to the vans that get our middle and high school skiers to the snow, this free transportation regularly gets 85+ kids from school to the trails after school. 

As one parent shared: 

"In a geographically spread-out valley like ours, the bus is not a luxury - it is essential infrastructure for a strong and equitable ski program. It gives athletes access to the best training conditions, which is critical for skill development and safety. Just as importantly, it makes participation feasible for families; without the bus, parents would be forced to juggle complex daily shuttles between schools and training locations, something that would be unmanageable for many. The team bus supports not only the athletes' success, but also the sustainability of the program."

As a 501(c)(3), we are committed to keeping programming costs as low as possible, providing scholarships so that any interested child can join our programs, and providing free transportation so that every child has the opportunity to participate.  All funds raised during our Ski-a-thon will specifically fund our youth team transportation as we work to raise enough money to purchase a new team van that will be used to safely transport young skiers for years to come.
